The Telefónica network experienced a 152% increase in the volume of calls in the area of Plaza de Cibeles in Madrid last Monday, the 20th, coinciding with the celebration in the capital of Spain's victory in the World Cup, compared to the traffic recorded the previous Monday.
According to the data provided by the Spanish company, its infrastructure also recorded a 70% increase in 5G mobile data traffic when compared to the same time slot a week earlier.
On the other hand, on Sunday the 19th, the day the World Cup Final was held, in that same environment of Plaza de Cibeles, the total traffic processed by the Telefónica network rose by 12%, while the use of voice calls skyrocketed by up to 73% more.
Telefónica has also added that it detected a 30% increase in 5G traffic in "download" mode during the development of the World Cup Final, compared to the volume processed that same Sunday but before the start of the match.
Furthermore, the company chaired by Marc Murtra has highlighted that the peak traffic reached in its network during this last Sunday, when the Final that awarded Spain its second World Cup was played, was 20% higher than the maximum recorded exactly one week earlier, on July 12th.
