The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has blamed the main oil companies for "swindling" consumers by not reflecting in the price of gasoline the sharp drop in the cost of crude oil, and has ordered the Department of Justice to open an investigation into what happened.

In a message disseminated on his social network, the president denounced that "Big Oil is not bringing down gasoline prices commensurate with the massive drop in the price of oil. Those prices are crashing!", reproaching that the cheapening of oil is not being transferred with the same intensity to the pumps.

"In other words, they are swindling consumers," Trump insisted, while explaining that he has instructed the Department of Justice to "immediately investigate this situation" and determine if irregular practices are occurring in price setting.

The president also issued a direct warning to the sector by stating that "Gasoline prices better start coming down, and coming down fast!"

According to data from the American Automobile Association (AAA), the average price of a gallon of gasoline is currently 3.93 dollars, which represents a 13.6% decrease compared to the level a month ago and its placement below the 4 dollar threshold for the first time in three months, although it still remains above the seasonal average recorded in the last five years.
