The Israeli Army has reported this Sunday the death of a 21-year-old Israeli soldier during a combat operation in southern Lebanon, an incident in which four other soldiers were injured.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have identified the deceased as Michael Tyukin, originally from Ashkelon and a member of the reconnaissance unit of the Givati Brigade. According to the military statement, the soldier lost his life in the course of clashes in the south of Lebanese territory.
Once his relatives were notified, the IDF also indicated that Tyukin has been posthumously promoted to the rank of sergeant.
The Hebrew Army added that four other fighters suffered minor injuries in the same episode in which Tyukin died, although it has not provided further information about their identity or how the events unfolded.
In a statement released on social media, the Israeli forces conveyed their condolences to the relatives of the deceased and assured that "they share the pain of the family," to whom "they will continue providing support."
This new death occurs in the context of the operations that the IDF maintain in the border strip with Lebanon, an area that has been the scene of constant security incidents and armed clashes in recent months.
The most recent large-scale hostilities between the two countries began on March 2, when Hezbollah launched projectiles against Israel in retaliation for the assassination of the supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, during the offensive launched on February 28 by Israel and the United States against the Asian country.
The parties had agreed to a ceasefire in November 2024 after thirteen months of fighting linked to the attacks of October 7, 2023, although since then Israel has continued to carry out frequent bombings on Lebanese territory and maintain troops in various locations, alleging operations against Hezbollah, amid complaints from Beirut and the group itself.
