A preliminary magnitude 6.0 earthquake has struck this afternoon the coastal area of northern Japan, affecting mainly the prefecture of Hokkaido, with no reports of casualties or material damage so far.

This new tremor occurs a few hours after another earthquake, with a preliminary magnitude of 5.9, left at least 37 people injured in the east of the country, with a greater impact in the Tokyo region and in the nearby prefectures.

The seismic movement recorded in Hokkaido took place at 15:26 (peninsular time in Spain and the Balearic Islands) and was located at a depth of 42 kilometers, according to data from the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
