The Chinese authorities have accused the United States government this Monday of "escalating tensions" with Iran and have stated that they will safeguard their "national rights and interests" against a potential economic war driven by Washington, which maintains its strategy of imposing new sanctions against Tehran.
In an appearance before the press, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin Jian, emphasized that the sanctions and continued pressure "do not help to solve the existing problems," but rather "intensify tensions and exacerbate the situation," something that, in his words, "is not in the interest of any of the parties."
Lin highlighted the need for all involved actors to maintain a "rational" and "restrained" stance, with the aim of "avoiding measures that could worsen conflicts and have a negative impact on global economic development and financial stability."
"It is important to return as soon as possible to the path of dialogue, negotiation, and political agreement," added the spokesperson, according to information published by the Chinese state newspaper 'Global Times.'
The Foreign representative responded to questions about a possible reaction from Beijing to the new threats from Washington directed against Iran, which include a strengthening of the sanctions regime and contemplate punishments for countries that maintain trade exchanges with Tehran. Among them is China, one of the main buyers of Iranian crude oil.
