The president of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriella, communicated this Monday the appointment of former minister María Consuelo Araújo as the new ambassador of the country to the United States, with the aim of reestablishing the bilateral relationship after the frictions that arose between the Trump Administration and the government of Gustavo Petro.
"I am pleased to inform the country that my good friend, a person of all my trust and affection for many years, will be the new ambassador of Colombia in the United States: María Consuelo Araújo Castro," he indicated on his social networks, after obtaining the "approval" from Washington.
The head of state explained that he feels "honored and happy" to appoint Araújo, of whom he highlighted her "experience, trajectory, honesty, and intelligence," to head the Colombian Embassy in the United States, considered by him as the "most important" for his Executive.
"Welcome, dear Conchi, to the Government of the Miracle Homeland," De la Espriella emphasized.
Araújo was Minister of Foreign Affairs and also of Culture during the government of former president Álvaro Uribe (2002-2006). In addition, she has held various high-level positions in the Colombian Administration and, simultaneously, has developed part of her professional career in the private sector.
