An individual has been arrested this Friday in the Swedish locality of Fagersta, located northwest of Stockholm, after entering armed with a sword into a secondary school and injuring at least three people, all of them minors.

The Police have confirmed that the suspect was subdued and detained after being shot in the leg during the operation deployed at the Brinell institute, the scene of the attack.

According to the Swedish news outlet 'Aftonbladet', the arrested individual is said to be an 18-year-old former student of the center, with a history of assault and mental health issues, although authorities have not officially confirmed this information at the moment.

The police operation was activated shortly after 2:00 PM (local time), after receiving a report about a "suspected ongoing deadly act of violence" at a school, as explained by the Police spokesperson, Pelle Vamstad, to the cited media.

According to the data provided by local authorities, the attacker entered the building carrying a sword and caused injuries to "several people," including three minors aged between 12 and 17 who have been taken to the hospital, two of them with a "serious" prognosis.

The Swedish Prime Minister, Ulf Kristersson, has expressed on social media his sorrow for the "serious incident" recorded in the locality, whose motivation remains unclear, and has urged citizens to "let the Police and emergency services work without disturbances."

"We still do not know what is behind the act, but we know that the police are working with great intensity. Our thoughts are with all the affected people," stated the head of the Swedish Government.
