At least two people have lost their lives this Thursday after a fire broke out in a hospital in the German town of Ludwigslust, near Schwerin, in the north of the country. This has been confirmed by local authorities, who have not yet been able to determine the origin of the fire.
The authorities of the Ludwigslust-Parchim district have indicated in a statement disseminated on social networks that the deceased were patients admitted to the center. "Unfortunately, two patients have passed away," they stated, emphasizing that the fire started in the room of one of the hospital's patients.
In the same message, they reported that search and rescue operations have been concluded. "There are no missing persons. Our thoughts are with the families and all those affected by this tragedy," stated the authorities, adding that "the rest of the patients are safe."
For their part, the local police have raised the number of injured to more than 30, although a spokesperson for the force specified, in statements to the German news agency DPA, that none of them have serious injuries. The fire, which originated around 4:30 in the morning, forced the evacuation of the building and the removal of both patients and healthcare personnel.
