The Finnish authorities are examining whether there has been a violation of their territory after the detection of a drone off the coast of Porvoo, west of Helsinki, last Tuesday.
In an official note, the Ministry of Defence of Finland details that the device was located in the coastal area of Porvoo "after a member of the public reported its sighting." It also specifies that "Preliminary information indicates that the drone is used for inspection and mapping tasks and does not pose any danger to the population," although it emphasizes that the incident is being analyzed as a possible territorial violation.
In this context, the Finnish Border Guard and the Police "are investigating the incident" and have indicated that they will provide more information about the case as the investigations develop.
The episode takes place at a time of increased incursions into European airspace and coincides with recent reports from Germany and Poland about various acts of sabotage, including the one recorded at Leipzig airport, considered the most serious and which German authorities relate to a failed attack attempt by Russia.
