The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baqaei, reiterated this Monday that Tehran will not make "concessions" to the United States to end the war, after President Masud Pezeshkian spoke in favor of ending the conflict as soon as possible, appealing to Iran's position of strength.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran did not start the war. It defended its rights, its territorial integrity, and its national sovereignty. Naturally, the aggressor must be held accountable. We certainly did not start the war, but we will not allow the end of the war to be based on the terms of the aggressor," Baqaei indicated at a press conference.
The spokesman insisted that "there is no doubt that the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran, at all levels, are determined and committed to the defense of Iran and are not willing to yield to the excesses of the aggressor."
In the same vein, he rejected that Pezeshkian deviated from this official stance, considering that the president has shown Iran's "intransigence" against "the hegemony of the aggressor parties." "Their positions have been very clear. Their performance is also clear," he emphasized, highlighting the unity of the Iranian government in the face of the war unleashed by the United States.
Last week, Pezeshkian stated that the "best" thing would be to "end the war today," emphasizing that Tehran is in "a position of power and dignity, and the whole world recognizes our victory." "We will not yield to intimidation in any way and there is no doubt that we will stand firm until our last breath and respond overwhelmingly," he asserted, stressing that Iran will not surrender to Washington.
These statements come as the war in Iran enters a new phase following the announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump to launch an economic war against the Islamic Republic, in a new twist of his policy towards Tehran, awaiting the implementation of measures from a plan that, according to Washington, will entail a process of "isolation on an unprecedented scale."
