The Iranian Executive has accused the United States of "annihilating the foundational norms of International Law" through its economic war against Tehran, warning that the normalization of these practices will have global consequences. In this context, it has emphasized that "Canada is one of those who is learning the lesson," after Washington imposed new tariffs on the North American country.
In a message disseminated on social media, the spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry, Esmaeil Baqaei, has stated that "the United States announces the 'Economic D-Day'. Those who prefer to be obedient like shadows say: 'This is fine.' But wait, it is not fine at all."
The representative of Iranian diplomacy has denounced that "when a bully declares that all banks, companies, ports, and governments must choose between obeying Washington's whims or facing American revenge, this is no longer just about Iran." He has stressed that "this is about annihilating the most fundamental norms of International Law and the United Nations Charter, namely, respect for sovereign equality and the self-determination of all States."
Baqaei has added that "no decent State that values its sovereignty and national interests will accept the normalization of this degree of anarchy and systematic harassment." He then pointed out that "Canada is one of those who is already learning this lesson," referring to the current trade and financial tension between Washington and Ottawa, fueled by the decisions of U.S. President Donald Trump.
In parallel, the president of the Iranian Parliament and chief negotiator of Tehran, Mohamad Baqer Qalibaf, has once again lashed out at the U.S. Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, for his announcement of new measures, warning Washington that "this is not Normandy." "This is the night of improvisation and you forgot your own script," he has joked, before concluding that it is "the day of the clown."
The United States, through Bessent, communicated on Monday a trade offensive aimed at cutting off all funding avenues to Iran, even threatening sanctions against any country that maintains trade ties with the Islamic Republic, "including China," with the goal of achieving total isolation of the Iranian economy.
This movement from Washington comes just after the expiration of the 60-day deadline that the United States and Tehran had been granted to try to reach a global agreement to end the conflict triggered by the U.S.-Israeli offensive that began on February 28.
