The president of the Iranian Parliament, Mohamad Baqer Qalibaf, has denied this Thursday the statements of the US president, Donald Trump, in which he maintained that Iran's financial resources unfrozen after the signing of a memorandum of understanding would be used to acquire agricultural products from the United States.
"The United States falsely claims that our unfrozen assets will buy their agricultural goods. Interesting," Qalibaf said. "The only harvest we are collecting is the one you sowed: decades of distrust," he stated.
"It is organic, abundant, and domestically produced. But, apparently, the United States only exports genetically modified soy, broken promises, and empty speeches," the head of the Iranian negotiating delegation also ironically stated in a brief message disseminated on social media.
Trump has reiterated in recent days that the funds released within the framework of the preliminary agreement will be used "to buy corn, wheat, soybeans, and other products" produced in US territory. "Iran urgently needs food, and it will buy it exclusively from the United States," he affirmed on Wednesday.
On the other hand, Pakistan, which is acting as a mediator between the parties, has confirmed that the next round of technical talks will be held next week, following the recent series of contacts held in Switzerland, from which several working groups focused on different points of friction emerged.
The memorandum of understanding signed by Washington and Tehran establishes a 60-day period for negotiations aimed at ending the conflict, which began on February 28 with a surprise joint offensive launched by the United States and Israel against the Asian country, in the midst of a dialogue process to reach a new nuclear deal.
