The presidential candidate of the left-wing bloc Pacto Histórico, Iván Cepeda, has put the finishing touch this Saturday to his campaign for this Sunday's elections with a message to the nation in which he urged people to go to the polls en masse to "consolidate" the transformations promoted by the outgoing president, Gustavo Petro.

In his speech, Cepeda assured that "I have seen in the eyes of thousands of compatriots the certainty that the changes initiated in these days can continue and be consolidated" and stressed that "our government is and will be with the people, by the people, and for the people," underlining the institutional tone of his speech.

The Pacto Histórico candidate stressed that "millions of Colombians have seen their living conditions improve thanks to transformations, the expansion of rights, and the construction of a State closer to those who were historically excluded."

As the horizon of his eventual mandate, Cepeda has set himself the goal of "definitively overcoming poverty and ending social inequality" and has made a specific call to "the middle classes that sustain a large part of the economic and social life of the country." He also mentioned "those who have achieved material prosperity," in reference to the business community, to whom he has proposed maintaining dialogue and reaching agreements "that Colombia needs."

The candidate has committed to serving as "the Head of State and not of a part of society" and has insisted that "I will watch over the rights of each person and the strict fulfillment of the Constitution and the law."

In the final stretch of his address, he asked that no one neglect the appointment with the polls: "Let no one stay at home, let no one give up having a voice in this process of social transformation, because the future of Colombia is in the hands of its people and I am certain that tomorrow our nation will take another step towards a more just, freer, more human, and greater society. I hope to meet you very soon in Colombia, a dignified, democratic Colombia. That together we are and can continue building," he concluded.
