The executive director of the Russian fund 'Popular Front: Everything for Victory', Anatoli Chernishov, has died after being injured in an explosion recorded in the Crimean peninsula, territory annexed by Russia in 2014. The incident has been attributed by the organization itself to an attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to what the Ukrainian newspaper 'The Kyiv Independent' reported this Saturday.
Chernishov, 58 years old, would have suffered the injuries in the vicinity of the town of Skvortsovo, in the Simferopol district, during what the fund has described as "an airstrike by the Armed Forces of Ukraine," according to a statement released the day before by the organization on its social media.
The text explains that the head of the fund was evacuated to a hospital for medical attention after the explosion, although he ended up dying as a result of the injuries caused by the attack.
The organization has also stated that the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, posthumously awarded Chernishov the Order of Valor, although this detail has not been independently verified.
'Popular Front: Everything for Victory' is linked to the Kremlin and is responsible for channeling donations aimed at supporting the Russian troops deployed in Ukraine. According to the same outlet, these funds are used to finance drones, electronic warfare systems, vehicles, communication equipment, and other military supplies.
The fund is part of the Popular Front, a nationwide public movement promoted by Putin in 2011. The Russian leader himself indicated in July that contributions made by citizens through this structure had amounted to around 70 billion rubles (about 808 million dollars) to support the Russian war effort.
