At least ten people have lost their lives and another ten have been injured this Friday in a chain of collisions between rival communities in the province of Batha, located in central Chad.

The violence began on Thursday in the localities of Rebmbara and Al Kaba, where the lifeless bodies of six people were found. According to local authorities, the origin of the conflict is a dispute over agricultural land, a type of confrontation frequent in these areas near the capital, Yamena.

The local news portal Tchadinfos has pointed out that the general delegate of the Government in the province of Batha, General Ahmat Goukouni Mourali, along with the administrative and security authorities of Batha-East, have moved to the area to try to restore order and curb a possible escalation of violence.

In a statement released this Friday, the president of the provincial council of Batha, Rakhis Ahmat Saleh, has described the situation as "deeply regrettable" and has urged the inhabitants to prioritize dialogue and reconciliation.

The administrative and security authorities maintain close surveillance over the affected area and have reiterated their call to the population to remain calm, act with moderation, and contribute to safeguarding peace and social cohesion in the region.
