The number of deceased due to the 7.7 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale that shook the island of Flores, in the southwest of Indonesia, has risen to 87, according to the latest data released this Saturday by the country's authorities, who estimate about 13,000 displaced persons.

The earthquake, which has also caused more than 1,200 injuries, has not left any missing persons, although it has been accompanied by nearly 4,200 aftershocks in the province of East Nusa Tenggara. One of these secondary tremors -- of magnitude 5.6 -- was recorded on Thursday around 6:45 a.m. (local time) northeast of Ruteng, also in Flores.

The epicenter of this latest tremor is located about 37 kilometers from the mentioned city, while the hypocenter has been situated only 10 kilometers deep, as noted by the country's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, according to information from the newspaper "Jakarta Globe".

The emergency has forced thousands of residents to settle in makeshift camps in schools, police stations, and government offices, in a disaster that has become the deadliest since the 2022 earthquake, which caused hundreds of deaths in West Java.
