The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Kaja Kallas, has announced that she will present a proposal for new sanctions against Russia to the member states, in reaction to the offensive launched in the early hours of this Thursday by the Russian Army against the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, which has caused at least 13 deaths and more than 30 injuries.

"Words of condemnation alone will not stop the attacks on Kyiv. Only sustained military support for Ukraine and greater pressure on Moscow can achieve this," the head of European diplomacy stated in a social media message following the latest Russian bombings on Ukraine.

In this context, Kallas plans to propose to the Twenty-Seven this Thursday the inclusion of more entities linked to the Russian military-industrial complex on the sanctions list, insisting that "the more Moscow attacks civilians, the more sanctions will have to be imposed," until Russia accepts that "it cannot win."

The EU's Foreign Affairs chief also underlined European support for Ukraine, exemplified this week with the first tranche of 6 billion euros from the 90 billion euro loan intended to strengthen Kyiv's defense.

Furthermore, she explained that the staff of European institutions deployed in the Ukrainian capital are "located," and thanked them for continuing to perform their duties "with courage and dedication in the most difficult circumstances."

Almost 80 missiles and 500 drones launched against Ukraine

The Estonian politician's words come after a new wave of missile and drone attacks by the Russian Army that shook Kyiv during the night, where so far at least 13 fatalities, about thirty injured, numerous fires, and damage to several buildings have been counted.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia allegedly fired 74 missiles and nearly 500 drones against Ukrainian territory, including 24 'Iskander' ballistic missiles, 42 cruise missiles, and four 'Zircon' anti-ship missiles. Ukrainian military authorities maintain that their air defenses managed to intercept 48 of these missiles and 476 drones.

For its part, the Russian Ministry of Defense has admitted "a massive attack" against the Ukrainian capital, which it has described as "a response to the terrorist attacks by the Kiev regime against civilian infrastructure in Russia," in allusion to the recent drone attacks against refineries and communication centers in Russian territory, according to a statement disseminated on social networks.
