A total of 669 people have lost their lives and 2,362 remain missing after the devastating flood recorded on Wednesday due to the rise of the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa, a high mountain district near the border with the autonomous region of Tibet in China, according to the latest balance released by the authorities. From the Chinese side, the authorities have confirmed seven deceased and 554 missing, according to the emergency office of Tibet.
The spokesperson for the Nepalese Police, Abhinarayan Kafle, communicated this Saturday the latest official figures of the disaster, which reflect a reduction of around 150 people in the list of missing compared to the previous information, as he explained to local media.
Among the recovered bodies, 148 are women, 268 men, 22 girls, and 20 boys, while in 221 cases only body parts have been found that could not be identified. So far, 20 corpses have already been handed over to their families.
In the group of missing are 1,591 men and 264 Nepalese, in addition to 223 men and 300 women of other nationalities. Likewise, 2,301 injured have been recorded --1,506 men and 795 women-- and around a thousand people are housed in nine shelters. There are 101 people hospitalized.
The National Authority for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (NDRRMA) of Nepal has also updated the number of rescued people, which now stands at 4,451.
Military and volunteers continue the search efforts for victims of the flood, especially in the areas of Rasuwa, Timure, Trishuli, and Dhunche, with the support of 16 helicopters from the Army and private companies. The disaster has impacted the districts of Rasuwa, Chitwan, Dhading, Tanahun, Gorkha, Nuwakot, and Nawalparasi East.
