The president of the Federal Supreme Court of Brazil, Edson Fachin, assured this Wednesday that he will examine the accusations directed against the magistrate Alexandre de Moraes, after messages he allegedly exchanged with the former president of the now-liquidated Banco Master, Daniel Vorcaro, currently under investigation for financial fraud, were made public.

"In the coming days, after completing the necessary analysis of the facts and observing the relevant institutional procedures, this Presidency will announce, in due time and without haste, the appropriate and necessary measures," he indicated during an event.

Fachin also emphasized that those responsible for the main positions of public power are obliged to act within the margins set by the Constitution. "The evidence demands an adequate institutional action. Circumstances related, on one hand, to procedures and, on the other, to serious facts that require serenity, responsibility, and firmness from this Presidency," he stated, according to "O Globo."

The messages between Vorcaro and Moraes were located in the material extracted from the former banker’s mobile phone, documentation that the Police had managed to recover but had not been examined until Justice ordered the Federal Police to prepare a report on the content and, later, send it to the Attorney General for analysis.

The matter has significantly impacted the leadership of the Brazilian Judiciary, exposing to public scrutiny the procedural conduct, possible influences, and access channels of businessmen linked to intervened or already closed banks before magistrates of the high court.

At the same time, the Federal Police (PF) and the Central Bank of Brazil are conducting investigations into Banco Master for an alleged fraudulent scheme of buying and selling credit portfolios aimed at artificially inflating the entity's balance sheet, in order to hide losses and disguise the bank's insolvency situation.
