Three firefighters have lost their lives and two others have been injured this past Saturday while working on containment efforts for the fires declared in the border area between the states of Colorado and Utah. These fires are part of the wave of fires that is devastating part of the region known as the Four Corners, where Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah converge, in the southwestern United States.
The US Forest Fire Service has confirmed the number of victims through its social media, although for now it has not offered details on the condition of the two injured firefighters.
At this time, Colorado remains in a state of emergency due to the large Snyder Mesa fire, which originated in eastern Utah before crossing the state border and merging with two other smaller fires, Jones and Knowles, which were burning in Mesa County, Colorado.
According to the latest report released by the authorities late Saturday, the flames have already ravaged more than 11,000 hectares and continue to be out of control.
The most concerning fires are Cottonwood, which has burned almost 38,000 hectares, and Iron, which is only 38% contained after devastating 16,000 hectares, both located in the state of Utah.
