The Somali Executive announced this Saturday the recovery of a cargo ship that had been captured by pirates in waters near its coast, in a joint operation with the Turkish Navy. During the operation, 14 assailants were killed and four boats used by the criminals were destroyed.
"The Turkish Navy in collaboration with the Somali National Armed Forces has freed the ship 'MV Latuf' after a ten-day anti-piracy operation," the Somali Ministry of Defense reported in a statement.
The military action took place in the vicinity of Jifle, in the Somali district of Eyl, belonging to the Nugaal region. "The ship is safe and has resumed its journey safely," the Ministry added.
The 'MV Latuf' was hijacked on August 17, when eight armed individuals boarded the vessel and took the bridge.
