The leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal, has celebrated the electoral triumph of the far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD) in the regional elections of Saxony-Anhalt, which he has defined as "a great hope for Germany and for Europe."
"Congratulations to Alice Weidel and Ulrich Siegmund for this spectacular result that is a great hope for Germany and for Europe," Abascal pointed out this Sunday through a message on the social network 'X', reported by Europa Press.
The Vox leader has spoken out after AfD's victory in the elections held this Sunday in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt, where the party has clearly prevailed, although without reaching the necessary support to govern alone, leaving open the option of an Executive backed by the rest of the parties.
According to the latest real vote projection prepared by Infratest Dimap for the German public television ARD, AfD would have obtained around 44% of the votes, which would translate into 39 seats, below the 42 needed for an absolute majority in the regional Parliament.
Behind AfD would be the conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU), with 17.8% of the votes, which would mean around 16 deputies and a drop of 19.3 points compared to the previous regional elections.
In third place would be tied the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and The Left, with about 9% support and around 8 seats each, followed by the Greens, who would achieve 8.7% and also 8 representatives.
In sixth place would be the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW), with 5.1%, ahead of the Free Democratic Party (FDP), which would remain at 2.4% and out of the Chamber, since the minimum threshold for obtaining representation is 5%.
Another of the highlighted data from the electoral day has been the strong increase in participation, which has reached 80%, well above the 60.3% recorded in the 2021 regional elections.
