The president of the PP of Catalonia, Alejandro Fernández, has assured that the congress of the Catalan PP scheduled for June 27 will provide a new boost for the party: "We are going to emerge united, strong, and with a broadly shared project."
In an interview with 'La Vanguardia' and reported by Europa Press, when asked if the congress will allow for the resolution of old internal conflicts and the emergence of a more collective leadership, he replied that "it is possible, it is necessary, and it will be so."
"Disagreements are part of the past, and this means that working together things work," said the popular leader, highlighting the party's progress in votes and institutional representation over the last 10 years.
General Secretariat and Political Direction
Fernández, who will run for re-election as president of the Catalan PP, has argued that his project involves consolidating itself as an alternative to both nationalism and socialism, which, as he recalled, have governed Catalonia for the last four decades and whom he considers "responsible for the decline of Catalonia."
When asked about a possible renewal of the general secretariat, currently held by Santi Rodríguez, he responded that "one of the few privileges" of his position is being able to propose the person who will occupy this responsibility and that, when the time comes, he will exercise that power.
Turning Point and Electoral Objectives
He detailed that one of the central purposes of the congress is to configure an organization with "a greater capacity for territorial penetration and capable of reaching more places," and he predicted that this event will mark a true turning point to achieve this.
Regarding the electoral goals of the Catalan PP, he indicated that they aspire to have sufficient political strength to abolish the inheritance tax, reform the Housing Law, and strengthen the protection of private property, in addition to reorienting the political agenda in Catalonia.
