The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, has announced that the ambassador of Iran in Spain, Reza Zabid, has been summoned this Thursday to the Ministry to convey the demand that Tehran respect Human Rights and, specifically, that it proceed to the immediate release of the Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi, imprisoned by the ayatollahs' regime and in a very delicate health situation.

Albares has revealed this call during his speech in the Plenary Session of Congress, in which he reported on the Government's actions in relation to the Global Sumud Flotilla destined for Gaza and in which he also addressed the situation in Iran.

The head of Foreign Affairs has underlined that the Spanish Executive has backed all European sanctions against Tehran for Human Rights violations and has condemned "the brutal repression exercised by the Iranian authorities against their people", including executions, assuring that Spain will continue to raise "its voice against any serious violation by the Iranian regime".

On this line, he has reiterated "the constant demand that the Human Rights of the Iranian people, especially women, be respected" and has expressly alluded to the case of the Nobel Peace Prize winner, whose file he said to be following "with great concern".

Albares has insisted that "it is essential that she receive the necessary medical attention; but, above all, we demand the immediate release of the Iranian authorities," recalling that Mohammadi, "a great defender of women's rights in Iran, who is admitted in critical health conditions after the worsening of her condition in prison."

This will be the message that the Ministry will send to the Iranian ambassador in Madrid, summoned this Thursday to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the minister has pointed out, who also condemned in his speech "the unjustified and indiscriminate attacks by Iran against the Gulf countries and Jordan".

Albares has reiterated the Government's rejection of the military operation launched by the United States and Israel on February 28 against Iran and has called for "full respect for freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz", while pointing out that Spain is working "with European and regional partners to demand compliance with the law of the sea.

Likewise, it has demanded "full respect for the ceasefire" and has expressed the Executive's support for the talks sponsored by Pakistan, "since there is no military alternative to a diplomatic and political solution that resolves all pending issues with Iran".

Therefore, he has appealed to all parties to "seize the opportunity of the negotiations to move towards a political, lasting and sustainable solution".
