The president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has expressed his support for the Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who this Friday has been received with a great ovation by the national leadership of the party at the 'Génova' headquarters, reaffirming the support of the populars for the cause led by the Venezuelan leader.
"The place of Spain is next to María Corina and not next to the tyranny that has persecuted her and continues to persecute her. The place of Spain is with freedom, with light and stenographers, and not with the dictatorship hidden at Barajas airport", the leader of the PP has proclaimed during his intervention alongside the opposition figure, alluding to the arrival in 2020 at Madrid airport of the current acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, where she was received by former minister José Luis Ábalos.
Feijóo has insisted that there cannot be nuances between "democracy and dictatorship, freedom or repression", demanding the return of Machado to Venezuela and advocating for a transition in the country in which "fear" is left behind and citizens "can vote without threats, without fraud and with guarantees", "with an explicit calendar" and "as soon as possible".
For her part, Machado has warned that Venezuela now faces the "greatest challenge", which consists of culminating the eviction of the Chavista regime, which, according to her, they defeated "spiritually, electorally and now militarily", and has encouraged the international community to continue battling for freedom "more than ever". Along those lines, she has demanded progress towards "the total liberation of all Venezuelans who remain imprisoned" and that "all" return to exercise popular sovereignty through voting.
The opposition leader has been welcomed with a prolonged ovation at the doors of the 'Génova' headquarters, where several members of the national leadership and Feijóo himself were waiting for her, who has recognized María Corina her bravery amidst shouts of "freedom." She has also been greeted by the former metropolitan mayor of Caracas, Antonio Ledezma.
In addition to the meeting with Feijóo, María Corina Machado will meet on Saturday with the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso. Likewise, the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, will present this Friday the Golden Key to the also Nobel Peace Prize winner, in an event scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at the Casa de la Villa. She will not hold a meeting, however, with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, who is in Barcelona due to the summits with progressive leaders.
