The concentration "Let's stop racism," driven in the Plaza de Callao by the Internationalist Assembly of Madrid along with various social collectives and alternative left organizations, has gathered several hundred people in a mobilization in support of Ceuta.
Called through social networks by different groups, including the Internationalist Assembly of Madrid itself, the protest, set for 7:40 PM against "the escalation of racist violence against migrant people" in Ceuta, was already filling the Plaza de Callao with chants like "racists out, you are the terrorists" and "the immigration law kills people every day."
The attendees have chanted slogans against racism and xenophobia and have demanded a different response to the migration crisis, one that does not humiliate or stigmatize migrant people. "This cannot become a breeding ground for racism for the far right," defended one of the participants in the concentration.
The protest coincided in time with the mobilizations called in the Plaza de Cibeles. The proximity between the two has led to clashes with those attending the call on social networks from the platform "For Ceuta," who, while advancing along Gran Vía towards the door of the Madrid City Hall, exchanged insults at the height of Callao with the attendees of "Let's stop racism."
This clash of demonstrations led to the Police intervening between both groups around 8:00 PM, at the initially set time for the start of the call, due to the increase in tension, quickly managing to disperse the confrontation.
Despite this, no notable incidents occurred and the concentration continued peacefully, with banners reading "We want Lamine, we want Hasan, we want Moha,..." and "fucking Nazis," as an anti-racist response to what, according to some attendees, was intended to be a response "to the violent call of National Core."
The mobilization remained static, without leaving the metro square and without generating new altercations, while the megaphones of different groups continued to send messages of support to the migrant people who arrived in Ceuta and of solidarity with the Ceuta population.
In the concentration, slogans from small left-wing collectives were also heard, such as "the working class is one and without borders" or "against racism the struggle continues."
