The Executive of the Region of Murcia has expressed its "strong support" for Ceuta in light of the situation of "absolute defenselessness and abandonment" that, in its view, it suffers from the "neglect of functions by the central Executive," and has backed the allocation of a budget of 25 million euros to help address the consequences of the migration crisis.
The counselor of Social Policy, Families and Equality, Conchita Ruiz, defended this allocation at the Sectoral Conference on Childhood and Adolescence, where she emphasized that the funding approved by the Government of Spain is "insufficient and cannot guarantee the dignified reception of minors," as stated by the Community.
In her speech, Ruiz called on the central Administration to "take control of a situation that has gotten out of hand in Ceuta" and warned that the crisis "has also worsened in the Region of Murcia, where the arrival of boats with immigrants on board is constant, putting to the test the available resources, which are at their limit."
In this regard, she indicated that so far this year "more than 500 minors have already arrived on the Murcian coasts by this route."
The head of Social Policy also urged the National Executive to fulfill the commitment made by the ministries of Territorial Policy, Interior, and Foreign Affairs to "return minors to their families or for the Moroccan protection system to assume the guardianship of those children, as the country itself has demanded."
Ruiz also recalled that Article 35 of the Organic Law on Immigration establishes as a priority "to work with minors to reunite them with their families," a principle that, she added, aligns with the guidelines of the European Union regarding the return of minors to their countries of origin.
