The Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Function and Secretary General of PSOE-M, Óscar López, has sent a message to "all those who try to pressure from the outside," making it clear that his party's intention is to continue at the head of the Government of Spain "not only until 2027," but "beyond."

The socialist leader made these remarks this Sunday at the closing of the XVI Regional Congress of Socialist Youth of Madrid, held in Alcorcón, where he emphasized that, in his opinion, "the important thing is to think about Spain in 2030."

From the congress platform, López posed a series of questions to highlight what, according to him, is at stake in the coming years: "Here I think everyone knows what we are playing for. What do people want? How do people want Spain to be in 2030? Do they want pensions to be frozen? Do they want the piggy bank to be emptied, as a PP Government already did? Do they want healthcare to be privatized, as the Popular Party's regional governments are doing? Do they want Spain to go back to the Azores trio to defend unjust wars? Do they want policies that cut rights for women or migrants to be implemented?".

In this regard, the minister reiterated that he is "very convinced" that "the vast majority of Spaniards" are "very much in agreement and prefer a fairer Spain." "For that, we are also going to work for the year 2030," he stressed during his speech.

López maintains that there are sectors that "try to pressure the PSOE from the outside, as they already did" with former presidents Felipe González or José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, but he emphasized that "this party and its members have decided to govern and continue governing."

He also recalled the impact of political decisions adopted by the party in power: "Behind every discussion that has taken place in a socialist group or in a congress like this, there have been decisions in the Official State Gazette (BOE) that have changed people's lives. And people's lives can be changed for the better or for the worse."

Defense of the "autonomy" of socialist members

On the other hand, the head of Digital Transformation and Public Function defended that the left governs in Spain "thanks to the wisdom, independence, and autonomy" of PSOE members, to whom he attributed a key role in the orientation of the political project.

The also leader of PSOE-M has claimed the historical weight of his party in institutions: "And we were and are the biggest option for government that has existed in Spain, the one that has governed the longest, the only one that has governed all the communities and all the city councils".

In coherence with this approach, he has said to feel "convinced" that those who have decided to join the party "are going to fight for many years for a series of ideas and values that are what transform people's lives".

To exemplify these values, López has underlined the social agenda that, according to him, the Executive promotes: "I am convinced that those of you who are here want to defend that men and women have equal rights, after centuries of male domination. That is what this Government does. That you want workers to have stable contracts, decent wages. That is what this Government does. And that today's pensioners have decent pensions, while we fill the piggy bank for future pensions. And that is what this Government does".
