The PSOE has registered a proposal for an institutional declaration for the next Plenary Session of Congress, scheduled for the 14th, to express its support for the Venezuelan people after the earthquakes of June 24, thank the work of the emergency teams and NGOs displaced to the area, and highlight Spain's collaboration with those affected by the tragedy.
The socialists' initiative seeks for the Lower House to convey its most sincere condolences to all people affected by the earthquakes, which have caused thousands of deaths, and to express its deep sorrow, sadness, and solidarity with all of them. For the text to be read in the next plenary session, it is essential that it has the unanimous support of all parliamentary groups.
The PSOE also proposes that Congress explicitly recognize the work being carried out by the emergency teams sent to the area, particularly those of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), including the deployment of the Spanish Technical Team for Aid and Emergency Response (START), decentralized cooperation, the Military Emergency Unit (UME), and other bodies and units dependent on both the General State Administration and the autonomous communities.
The proposal also seeks to highlight the "essential" work of Spanish humanitarian action NGOs and their local partners on the ground, whose experience is key to articulating a "coordinated, effective, and close" response to the communities hit by the earthquake. "All of them have the backing and support of Congress," states the text, to which Europa Press has had access.
The solidarity of Spanish citizens
Similarly, the socialists want Congress to emphasize the collaboration, civility, and generosity shown by citizens and entities that, from Spain and in a "selfless" manner, are providing aid to those affected, since "once again, Spanish society has demonstrated its unwavering support and solidarity in the face of any catastrophe, an indisputable hallmark of the Spanish people."
Finally, the declaration driven by the PSOE proposes that Congress reaffirm its "full willingness" to continue promoting the sending of all necessary emergency aid, supporting rescue, emergency, and early recovery tasks, as well as the reconstruction of Venezuela, in coordination with the competent authorities, specialized international organizations, and the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, when appropriate.
