The MEP and political secretary of Podemos, Irene Montero, has denounced that Morocco "is deeply involved" in the arrival of thousands of migrant people recorded at the end of July in Ceuta, questioning "why the Government keeps lying" about what happened.
"Many people wonder, I wonder, why does the Government keep lying? If all of Spain knows that Morocco is deeply involved in all this, why does the Government continue to defend the Moroccan dictatorship?" Montero stated this Wednesday in statements to the media before attending the concentration "Let's stop racism" in the Plaza de Callao (Madrid).
The Podemos leader has criticized the Executive for "continuing to fund" Morocco "with money from all Spaniards so that it does the dirty work at our borders." "If Morocco has been able to do this, it is because Spain has given it that power with that criminal migration policy that is European and that is Spanish," she emphasized.
"And why don't they resolve the humanitarian crisis already?, which is the most important thing and the best way to help all the people who live with concern about the overflow of public services in Ceuta," she added. When asked what decisions Podemos would have promoted to contain the situation in the autonomous city, Montero indicated that "the same" as those applied "with the hundreds of thousands of refugees from Ukraine" through their reception.
In relation to this, she recalled that it is "a legal duty of the Spanish State" which, in her view, "is being neglected." "The Government has abandoned its obligations of protection and reception," she reproached, while emphasizing that, in her opinion, it is not a "management problem" but rather "a calculated inaction that has created a humanitarian crisis and has fueled hatred and racist violence."
"We have gathered to denounce every act of hatred because all people are equal and we will continue to defend the diversity of Spain. No racist act has a place in this country and we will continue in this fight, we will continue to defend the life of everyone," concluded the political secretary of Podemos.
