The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Food of the Government of Aragon, Arancha Simón, traveled this Friday to the La Atalaya Water Users' Community, in Pina de Ebro, accompanied by the Director General of Agri-food Promotion and Innovation, Amparo Cuéllar.
This visit follows the meeting held this same week in the Department with representatives of the asparagus sector, in which they expressed their interest in moving towards a Protected Geographical Indication for this crop.
During the tour of the farms, Simón and Cuéllar had the opportunity to learn about the production system on site, talk with the farmers, and gather their proposals to achieve greater recognition for the asparagus from the area.
The Department will support the sector in analyzing this initiative, with the aim of studying how a quality label can be developed to help protect the product, position it better in the market, and highlight the efforts of those who produce it.
The minister thanked the producers for sharing their project and reiterated the Department's willingness to continue listening to those who know the crop and work with it daily in the territory.
