The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Environment takes part this week in the official tastings of the Vinari Awards 2026, one of the most prestigious enological competitions, to which it has sent 101 references from 28 wineries in the archipelago.
In this edition, the Balearic Islands act as guest territory and their wines compete against each other in various categories: white, white with aging, rosé, red, red with aging, sparkling, and sweet or dessert wines. All of them aspire to the Vinari Gran Oro, Vinari de Oro, and Vinari de Plata medals.
From among the wines that achieve a Vinari Gran Oro medal, the recognition for the Best Balearic Wine of the Year will be chosen, as detailed by the Ministry in a statement.
The tastings are carried out blind before a professional panel composed of winemakers, sommeliers, and other sector experts. On this occasion, four specialists from the archipelago are also participating: Lorenzo González, Marcel Roland Argente, Cristian Moreno, and Tolo Hernández.
"It is an excellent opportunity to give visibility to the wines of the Balearic Islands and to the work carried out by our wineries, which improve the quality of their productions year after year. It demonstrates the good moment that the Balearic wine sector is experiencing and its capacity to offer high-quality products," said the Director General of Agri-food Quality and Local Product, Joan Llabrés.
