The Ministry of Rural Environment and Agricultural Policy has completed the renovation works of the roof and structural consolidation of the Luarca fish market, in Valdés. This action has involved an investment of close to 465,000 euros aimed at improving the conservation, safety, and functionality of one of the main fishing infrastructures on the western coast. The minister, Marcelino Marcos, visited the fish market this Thursday, where the problems of humidity and leaks caused by the deterioration of the main roof and side sheds have been definitively resolved. The pathologies detected in the east facade, affected by deformations and cracks, have also been corrected, as reported by the Principality in a press release. The action has included the complete replacement of the slate roof of the main building with a new waterproofing system, the renovation of the roofs of the side sheds, and the reconstruction of the east facade using a new foundation and structure. All of this guarantees the stability and conservation of the property. The works also included the replacement and adaptation of the facilities affected by the intervention, including the photovoltaic system and those for video surveillance, weighing, and lighting, so that the fish market maintains full operational capacity. The renovation of the fish market is part of the agreements of the Pact for the Rural Environment of Asturias and the investment program that the ministry is developing to conserve and modernize fishing infrastructures. OFFICE FOR THE RURAL ENVIRONMENT On the other hand, the Principality has undertaken the renovation of the Office for the Rural Environment of Luarca, which has involved an investment of 109,739 euros. During his visit to Valdés, the minister also visited these facilities, which are "more modern and efficient." The action consisted of the renovation of part of the exterior carpentry and glazing of the building, the rehabilitation of the interior wood, and the installation of a new false ceiling with materials of greater thermal and acoustic insulation efficiency. Blinds have also been changed to increase the privacy of the building, and the restrooms have been remodeled, incorporating a shower for staff use. Likewise, the access points have been refurbished, and the equipment has been adapted to facilitate its use by people with reduced mobility. All the lighting has also been renewed, for an energy improvement of the property. Furthermore, a new sidewalk has been built outside the building to prevent possible leaks in the main facade, which will contribute to greater durability of the building.
