The deputy spokesperson for Junts in the Parliament and councilor in Barcelona, Josep Rius, has demanded the resignation of the Minister of Territory of the Generalitat, Sílvia Paneque, as well as the Secretary of Mobility and Infrastructures of the Government, Manel Nadal, following the sinkhole that appeared in the Putxet neighborhood, which has forced the evacuation of at least 93 homes until Saturday.
Rius made this request at a press conference this Wednesday in the Catalan Chamber, where he appeared alongside the spokesperson for Junts in the Parliament, Salvador Vergés, and the president of Junts in the Catalan capital, Jordi Martí.
The Junts leader demanded that Paneque and Nadal appear before the Parliament to offer detailed explanations and then submit their resignations: "Today Catalonia has a minister who has been censured twice and who has lost the confidence to manage crises of this magnitude."
During his speech, Martí explained that they have registered a request for Mayor Jaume Collboni to appear before the Urban Planning Commission of Barcelona next Tuesday, and he also urged him to provide any explanations he gives until then "always accompanied by the residents."
"More than a political crisis, it is a crisis of citizens losing confidence in the government because they wonder what will happen next week or the month after," Martí remarked, emphasizing the residents' concern.
On the other hand, Vergés insisted that it would be "unthinkable" for Paneque to refuse to appear, as, in his opinion, extensive public explanations are needed and not limited "to more than two and a half minutes during a control session."
