The plenary session of the Parliament has rejected this Wednesday the amendment in its entirety presented by Vox to the bill on the regulation and simplification of body donation to science, promoted by Junts, so that the text will continue its ordinary processing in committee.

In the vote, only Vox supported its own return amendment, while the PP abstained. For their part, PSC-Units, Junts, ERC, Comuns, CUP, and Aliança Catalana rejected the amendment, thus allowing the legislative initiative to move forward.

The proposal aims to establish a homogeneous regulatory framework that allows for efficient and respectful management of donations, guaranteeing the rights of donors and their families, while at the same time favoring the maximum use of bodies for healthcare training and biomedical research.

The text includes, among other aspects, the voluntary and free nature of donations, the principle of confidentiality, and respectful treatment of the body at all times. It also contemplates the creation of a single registry of body donors to science in Catalonia to centralize information, unify procedures and forms, and establish common criteria for acceptance and exclusion of donations.

The future regulation also provides for measures so that families do not have to bear the costs derived from procedures or the transfer of the body, and so that receiving centers have spaces for memory and tribute dedicated to the donors.
