The wildfires leave this Tuesday a situation much more favorable than that experienced during the last weeks, although emergency services maintain vigilance in several points of the country. The fire in Fermoselle (Zamora) continues to be the main active focus, with efforts concentrated on extinguishing the last hot spots of the Arribes del Duero, while the rest of the large fires evolve positively and have entered a phase of control, vigilance, or recovery.
The improvement of meteorological conditions has allowed consolidating the perimeters of the most serious fires recorded in Madrid, Ávila, Toledo, and Castellón. Even so, authorities remind that the risk of new fires continues to be high in much of Spain and ask to take extreme precautions to avoid repeating episodes like those recorded during the second half of July.
Fermoselle continues to be the main active fire
The fire declared in Fermoselle continues to concentrate a good part of the firefighting efforts. After the significant improvement recorded during the last days, the work is now focused on the hotspots that remain active in the most rugged areas of the Arribes del Duero natural park, where access remains especially complicated for ground resources.
The evolution of the fire allows facing a more favorable phase than that experienced during the first days of the emergency, although teams maintain constant vigilance to prevent re-ignitions. At the same time, damage assessment work continues and the first actions aimed at recovering the affected areas.
Madrid, Ávila, and Toledo advance towards reconstruction
The fires that affected the Community of Madrid, Ávila, and part of Toledo show a clearly positive evolution. Having overcome the most critical phase of the emergency, the teams are working on the definitive consolidation of the perimeters and on the monitoring of possible hot spots.
Meanwhile, the affected municipalities are beginning to focus their efforts on recovery. The mayors of several of the hardest-hit localities have called for a state pact that allows strengthening the prevention and management of large wildfires, after an emergency that has marked a before and after due to its magnitude.
Castellón maintains vigilance in the Sierra de Espadán
The situation also continues to improve in the Sierra de Espadán, in Castellón, where the fire remains stabilized and under surveillance. The extinguishing services continue to review the perimeter to detect any reactivation that could occur as a consequence of the heat or the wind.
At the same time, efforts are advancing to assess the damage caused by the fire and progressively recover normality in the affected municipalities, after one of the most significant fires recorded this summer in the Comunitat Valenciana.
The risk remains high despite the improvement
Although the scenario has changed notably compared to the end of July, the forest fire campaign continues and the authorities maintain maximum vigilance. The high temperatures expected for the coming weeks and the state of the vegetation mean that any flare-up could spread quickly if not detected in time.
Emergency services remind of the importance of avoiding risky behaviors in the natural environment and always following the indications of Civil Protection and the extinguishing operatives in case a new fire is declared.
