The spokesperson for IU-Convocatoria por Oviedo, Gaspar Llamazares, stated this Saturday that the decision to exclude Oviedo as the headquarters of the State Agency for Public Health was due to an "arbitrary and predetermined" process aimed at benefiting Zaragoza, which is why he urged the City Council and the Government of the Principality to challenge the resolution.
In a note sent to the media, Llamazares responded to the statements of the Minister of Health, Concepción Saavedra, and rejected that the Oviedo proposal was excluded due to a mistake in the calculation of the offered area.
In his view, "it is not a mistake, much less an incompatibility of the Oviedo proposal with the initial criteria," but rather "an arbitrary and predetermined approach" that led to "a bidding up" in favor of Zaragoza.
The IU leader also emphasized that the Oviedo candidacy met the required conditions and that the municipality had favorable factors such as communications, access to housing, and the track record of Asturias in health management.
Consequently, he stressed that the final decision constitutes "a tailored suit predetermined for Zaragoza" and stated that the City Council of Oviedo and the regional government "only have the option of appealing this decision."
