The weather on the May bridge arrives with a forecast marked by instability in a large part of Spain. According to AEMET, the most likely scenario is that showers will be recorded during these days, especially in the northern third and the eastern peninsular, in a variable weather scenario where storms and high temperatures for the season will coexist.

That pattern does not respond, according to what was published by AEMET, to a heatwave situation, but rather to an episode of spring instability with locally intense storms, hail, and strong wind gusts in some places. At the same time, models point to maximums that could be around 28 to 30 degrees in valleys such as the Ebro and Guadalquivir.

The forecast also incorporates usual uncertainty several days ahead, but with a common signal: the bridge will be rough, especially in areas of the north, interior, and eastern peninsula.

Provinces and areas under alert

Among the active alerts and the areas mentioned in official forecasts are provinces of Castilla y León, Asturias, Cantabria, La Rioja, Galicia, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, and Andalucía, with alerts for rain or storms in different areas. AEMET maintains active alerts that include areas such as Burgos and other areas of the Cantabrian Mountains.

Areas of the Pyrenees and the Iberian System are also monitored, where AEMET's own forecast places possible stormy showers on days of the long weekend, especially in the afternoon.

Many of these storms will have irregular distribution, so intense episodes may occur in specific spots and little precipitation in nearby areas, something usual in spring evolution situations.

Heat and storms on the same bridge

One of the most repeated features in the forecast is the combination of warm weather and risk of storms. According to AEMET, temperatures will be high for the season in many areas despite occasional drops linked to cloudiness or precipitation.

That contrast between heat and instability is precisely one of the elements that can favor locally strong storms, with the possibility of hail and intense wind, extremes that AEMET has mentioned in its weekly forecast.

Instead, the south appears in different scenarios as the relatively more stable zone, although not completely outside the stormy evolution.

What is known about the risk of DANA or severe storms

The influence of cold air masses or DANAs and also of troughs associated with instability is possible, but no special AEMET warning appears for a DANA of high impact as a singular episode for the weather on the May bridge.

Regarding severe storms, there is a risk of locally heavy showers accompanied by hail and very strong gusts of wind, especially in isolated convective episodes.
