Household bank deposits of residents in Spain reached 1.1095 trillion euros at the end of July, according to the latest data published by the Bank of Spain. The figure is equivalent to 1,109.500 million and exceeds by 41.100 million the balance recorded a year earlier.

The monthly comparison offers a different picture, as families reduced their deposits by 4.700 million compared to June 2026, when they had reached a maximum of 1.1142 trillion. Although the monthly decrease was 0.4%, the truth is that the year-on-year growth remained at 3.8%.

More money than a year ago, although less than in June

The balance of July is lower than that of June, but it remains well above that recorded in July 2025, when households held 1.0684 trillion euros in financial institutions. The comparison with the end of 2025 also reflects an increase. In this sense, deposits ended in December with 1.095 trillion, so during the first seven months of 2026 they have grown by 14.500 million euros, approximately 1.3%.

Date Household Deposits Difference compared to July 2026
July 2022 997.400 million +112.100 million
July 2025 1.068.400 million +41.100 million
December 2025 1.095.000 million +14.500 million
June 2026 1.114.200 million -4.700 million
July 2026 1.109.500 million

The amounts are nominal, so they are not adjusted to account for inflation.

The withdrawal in July repeats for the fourth consecutive year

The drop compared to June is not an isolated phenomenon as the balance of deposits also decreased during July 2023, 2024, and 2025, although with considerable differences between years. In this line, families withdrew around 5.500 million in July 2023 and about 13.600 million in the same month of 2024, so the decrease moderated to approximately 2.800 million in July 2025 and now stands at 4.700 million.

On the other hand, deposits represent only a part of the financial assets of families, so they do not include money invested in stocks, funds, pension plans, or debt securities, nor do they allow for the calculation of net wealth on their own, for which loans and other obligations must also be deducted.

Deposits increase by 112.100 million since 2022

The comparison with July 2022 allows observing the medium-term evolution using the same month of the year, when families accumulated 997.400 billion euros in bank deposits. Four years later, the balance is 112.100 million higher, which represents a nominal increase of 11.2%. Therefore, during that period, deposits have consolidated the threshold of one trillion euros and in 2026 have surpassed for the first time 1.1 trillion.

In this sense, the advance has moderated during the last year. Between July 2024 and July 2025, deposits increased by nearly 50.600 million, around 5%, so in the last twelve months the growth has been 41.100 million and 3.8%. These figures do not allow concluding that the purchasing power of savings has increased in the same proportion. To make that comparison, one would have to discount the accumulated inflation during each period.

Companies also hold more than a year ago

The deposits of non-financial corporations stood at 360.800 million euros at the end of July. Companies withdrew 14.800 million compared to June, which represents a monthly drop of 3.9%. Compared to July 2025, the corporate balance increased by 26.500 million, a 7.9%. Added together, the deposits of households and companies, both groups accumulated 1.4703 trillion euros, 67.600 million more than a year earlier.

The total deposits of the sectors residing in Spain amounted to 1.7621 trillion. This figure includes, in addition to households and companies, public administrations, financial institutions, insurers, and pension funds, so it should not be confused with the money deposited exclusively by families.
