Castilla y León, Baleares, and Castilla-La Mancha were the only autonomous communities in March that exceeded the legal limit of 30 days for paying their suppliers, according to data released this Friday by the Ministry of Finance.
For all autonomous communities combined, the Average Payment Period to Suppliers (PMP) in March 2026 stood at 26.32 days, a decrease of 1.26 days compared to the previous month, allowing the regional average to remain below the legal threshold of 30 days.
Despite this general improvement, Castilla y León registered a PMP of 70.91 days, while Baleares reached 39.80 days and Castilla-La Mancha stood at 37.59 days, all of them exceeding the maximum period set by regulations.
Among the communities that remain within the legal limit, the Valencian Community presented an average payment period of 26.97 days, followed by Navarra, with 26.51 days; the Region of Murcia, with 25.99 days; Catalonia, with 24.90 days; Extremadura, with 23.91 days; La Rioja, with 22.21 days; and the Basque Country, with 21.04 days.
Below 20 days, Aragón stands out with 18.17 days; the Community of Madrid, with 16.48 days; the Canary Islands, with 16.04 days; Andalusia, with 14.69 days; and Galicia, with 14.44 days. Cantabria leads the ranking as the region that pays its suppliers the fastest, with a PMP of 13.28 days.
Regarding other administrations, the average payment period for the Central Administration in March stood at 23.03 days. Local Corporations registered a period of 30.11 days in the first quarter of 2026, representing a reduction of 0.21 days compared to the same period of the previous year. For Social Security Funds, the average payment period reached 10.71 days in March.
The Department headed by Arcadi España emphasizes that these figures consolidate the favorable trend of recent years, which led the European Commission a few weeks ago to announce the closure of the infringement procedure opened against Spain since 2015 for non-compliance with the Directive on Late Payments in Commercial Transactions, after noting a generalized improvement in payment periods to suppliers across all public administrations.
