The CEO of IAG, Luis Gallego, has pointed out that the current European Union antitrust regulations make it "very difficult" to make an offer for the low-cost airline EasyJet, although he has specified that this possibility can still be analyzed.

In statements to the Financial Times newspaper, the head of the group -- parent company of Iberia, British Airways and Vueling -- indicated that the company maintains regular contact with other airlines in the sector with the aim of studying possible consolidation operations in the market.

Along these lines, Gallego has defended the need for Europe to review the way mergers between airlines are valued to facilitate these types of corporate movements.

On the other hand, the CEO of IAG has categorically rejected any scenario of alliance or integration with the American company American Airlines.

These considerations on the situation of the air business occur in parallel to the preliminary interest recently shown by the investment firm Castlelake to acquire a stake in EasyJet.
