Pimec has called for a "structural review" of the current model for managing sick leave. The employers' association proposes initiating this change by strengthening the public health system and increasing investment in primary care, as well as implementing more intelligent follow-up and monitoring, more rigorous control of temporary disability, and better management of medical discharges, according to sources from the organization this Wednesday.
Following the words of the PP leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, regarding sick leave, Pimec is in favor of reviewing the current measures within the framework of social dialogue. However, it warns that, if agreements are not reached in that space, "it is up to governments to make the decisions that allow addressing an issue that significantly affects" society as a whole.
The employers' association emphasizes that it is "exceptional" for a worker to receive 100% of their salary while on sick leave, something that only happens when the collective bargaining agreement so establishes. It adds that the review of these supplements received by employees is a proposal that Pimec has already put on the table in the ongoing collective bargaining.
Pimec recalls that "many of these supplements were incorporated into collective bargaining agreements in a context where the protection of the Social Security system was lower than it is now," which is why it considers it essential to adapt them to the current reality of the social protection system, especially prioritizing situations that truly need it.
