The Foreign Minister of Argentina has once again criticized Brazil's reaction and has accused the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of "escalating" the diplomatic tension unleashed by Javier Milei's recent insults towards the Brazilian president.
"In any confrontation, two are needed. Argentina regrets Brazil's unilateral decision. We believe that this is not the way. We are always willing to maintain relations. On our side, there will be no diplomatic action in response to what Brazil does," the Argentine Foreign Minister has stated.
The head of Argentine diplomacy, Quirno, who has reproached Lula for having "uttered insults" against Milei, has condemned that now from Brasilia there is talk of supposed external interference: "It is regrettable that they complain about interference in electoral processes when Lula visited (former president and former candidate) Cristina Kirchner before last year's elections and there was no problem on our part."
The minister's words come after the Brazilian government communicated to the Argentine ambassador in Brazil, Guillermo Daniel Raimondi, that he can return to Buenos Aires, after being summoned for consultations by the Brazilian Foreign Ministry in response to Milei's statements about Lula.
According to Brazilian media such as the newspaper 'Folha', this decision does not imply the formal expulsion of the ambassador, but is interpreted as a preliminary step. Raimondi will not be declared persona non grata nor has a deadline been set for him to leave the country, but he will no longer be considered by Brazilian authorities for the treatment of the bilateral relationship.
