The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, reiterated this Monday that the health and rescue personnel sent by Havana will continue to be deployed in Venezuela "for as long as necessary" to continue supporting rescue tasks and care for the affected, after the strong earthquakes registered more than a week ago, which have already left 3,535 dead.
"Cuban doctors and rescuers, representing our homeland, are modestly contributing to rescue and care actions for those affected. They will remain there for as long as necessary," the Cuban leader highlighted in a message disseminated through his social networks.
These statements by the head of the Cuban Executive come after he himself, at the head of an official delegation, went to the Venezuelan embassy in Havana to sign the book of condolences opened after the devastating earthquakes.
In the message he left written in said book, Díaz-Canel conveyed his "deepest condolences to the people and Government of the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela," as reported by the Presidency of Cuba in a statement.
The delegation that accompanied him was made up of the president of the National Assembly of People's Power, Esteban Lazo Hernández; the prime minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, both members of the Political Bureau, and the interim minister of Foreign Relations, Gerardo Peñalver Portal.
