At least 13 people, including two of Spanish nationality, have lost their lives this Saturday when a tourist plane heading to the Nazca Lines in southern Peru crashed, according to sources from the Andean chain RPP.
According to the passenger list accessed by the Peruvian broadcaster, the two deceased Spanish citizens have been identified as Alfredo Aviles Muñoyerro and Ana Isabel Sánchez Muñoz, both 52 years old. In addition, among the victims there would be seven other tourists of Italian nationality, two Germans, and the two Peruvian crew members.
In a statement disseminated on social networks, the Provincial Municipality of Nazca has confirmed that the crashed aircraft, operated by the company Aerodiana, had taken off from the city of Pisco with the aim of flying over these famous pre-Columbian figures.
The aircraft ended up crashing, for reasons that are still under investigation, in the area of Pueblo Viejo, very close to the lines. The General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) has indicated to the broadcaster Radio Programas del Perú (RPP) the composition of the flight's occupants after reviewing the manifest, although for now no further details have been provided about the nationality of the tourists.
"The investigation of the accident and the supervision of the aeronautical operations correspond to the competent authorities, who will determine the causes and responsibilities according to the law," the municipality of Nazca has stated.
For its part, the Municipality of the District of Vista Alegre has referred in another statement to an "emergency in mid-flight," without providing more details for the moment.
