The Lebanese Executive has updated this Tuesday the victim toll, now placing the number of dead at almost 4,280 and the injured at around 12,200 as a consequence of the bombings carried out by the Israeli Army on Lebanese territory since March 2, the date on which confrontations with the Shiite party-militia Hezbollah resumed, despite the ceasefire in effect since mid-April.
According to a statement from the Lebanese Ministry of Health, reported by the official NNA agency, 4,278 deaths have been counted, including 135 healthcare workers, and 12,196 people injured as a direct result of these military operations.
Last Friday, representatives from Lebanon and Israel concluded a framework agreement in Washington to open a dialogue process aimed at achieving a stable peace solution. However, this understanding does not contemplate an immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces from the occupied areas in the south of the neighboring country and only foresees a "gradual" withdrawal strictly subject to the disarmament of the Shiite militias, applicable only in two "pilot zones".
The document establishes that the Lebanese Army "will re-establish effective sovereignty" over the entire national territory, although it subordinates this deployment "pending the verified disarmament" of Hezbollah. The Shiite formation has already rejected the content of the agreement and has reiterated that it will not accept initiating any disarmament process linked to these bilateral negotiations.
This framework of understanding comes after the fifth round of contacts between both countries since March 2 and in a context of a fragile ceasefire, agreed in mid-April and subsequently extended, which has not managed to completely stop either Israeli air attacks or the launching of projectiles by Hezbollah.
