Mexican authorities announced this Wednesday that they will begin to make public information related to extradition requests, in compliance with the order issued by President Claudia Sheinbaum. The decision comes amid a diplomatic conflict over the United States' requests against the governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, and other high-ranking officials, whom the federal government is resisting handing over until there is solid evidence to support the accusations against them.

"By order of the president and in response to requests for access to information related to provisional arrest requests for extradition made by the United States, the Chancellery will make said information transparent," the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs communicated through a message published on social networks.

In that same statement, the Secretariat of Foreign Relations specifies that diplomatic notes related to ongoing judicial processes will be excluded from this openness, given that "by their nature they are confidential." "Our commitment is to transparency," the Mexican Chancellery emphasized.

The measure is adopted after Sheinbaum warned that her government will not accept the extradition of the Sinaloan governor if Washington does not provide the evidence supporting the accusations of drug trafficking and alleged ties to criminal organizations.

From Mexico City, the extradition request against Rocha Moya, as well as the cases affecting the state's deputy prosecutor, Dámaso Castro, and the mayor of Culiacán, Juan de Dios Gámez, among others, are interpreted as an attempt by the United States to interfere in Mexican internal politics with the aim of influencing the elections scheduled for 2027.
