At least one person has lost their life and another has been seriously injured in a terrorist attack carried out in Kulgam, in the Kashmir region, located in northeastern India. This incident marks the second attack recorded in this area in the last two weeks.
The victims are two construction workers who were hit by gunfire from terrorists in the locality of Kilam, about 16 kilometers from the city of Kulgam, which has remained on high security alert since the attack against a police officer on July 22, also attributed to armed militants.
This new attack adds to the one that occurred in April 2025 in Pahalgam, considered a massacre, in which 28 people died at the hands of fighters from the Resistance Front, an Islamist and separatist militia active in Kashmir.
The two workers were injured in the shooting and one of them later died due to the severity of the injuries while being transported to the Anantnag University Hospital.
According to information provided by police sources to the newspaper "Hindustan Times," the attackers quickly fled the scene, which has led to the deployment of a wide tracking and capture operation both in the locality and in nearby areas.
"The security forces are trying to locate the terrorists responsible for this attack," the authorities have stated.
In this context, the governor of Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, has described the incident as a "cowardly" act and has emphasized that he will "intensify" military operations in the region.
"I spoke with police authorities and senior security officials after the brutal terrorist attack in Kulgam in which a worker from Chhattisgarh was killed. I strongly condemn this cowardly act. I have directed our security forces to intensify their operations and eliminate the terrorists," he indicated in a message posted on his social media.
