The authorities of the Russian region of Belgorod reported late on Friday the death of a civilian and that three other people were injured, one of them in critical condition, as a result of a new wave of attacks that they attribute to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in this border area with the neighboring country.

The regional working group detailed that the fatal victim lost his life in the locality of Volchya Aleksandrovka, in the Volokonovski district, after the impact of a drone while riding an electric scooter, as reported by the Russian news agency Interfax.

"In the village of Volchya Aleksandrovka, in the Volokonovski district, an FPV drone attacked a man riding an electric scooter. He died on the spot due to his injuries," reads a statement released by local authorities.

At the same time, the regional operational center reported a missile attack against the Belgorod district. According to this source, one of the projectiles hit the yard of a private home in the locality of Novaya Nelidovka, where three women were injured.

The health services specified that one of the affected individuals is in serious condition and that all three have been evacuated by ambulance to Municipal Hospital number 2 of Belgorod for medical treatment.

The regional authorities also indicated that the bombing caused material damage to four single-family homes, two auxiliary buildings, and two vehicles, as well as the rupture of a gas pipeline.

Russia claims to have shot down hundreds of drones

On the other hand, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that its air defense systems shot down more than 200 fixed-wing drones launched from Ukraine against various points of Russian territory during the early hours of Saturday.

According to the balance released by the Ministry, the interceptions were recorded over the regions of Belgorod, Bryansk, Volgograd, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Lipetsk, Oryol, Rostov, Ryazan, Saratov, Smolensk, Tambov, and Tula, in addition to the Moscow region, the Crimean peninsula, the territory of Krasnodar, and the waters of the Azov and Black seas.

"During the night last, from 20:00 Moscow time on July 31 to 07:00 Moscow time on August 1, the air defense alert systems intercepted and destroyed 274 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of Ukrainian fixed-wing over the territories of the regions of Belgorod, Briansk, Volgograd, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Lipetsk, Oryol, Rostov, Ryazan, Saratov, Smolensk, Tambov and Tula, the Moscow region, the Republic of Crimea, the Krasnodar Krai and over the waters of the Azov and Black seas," the Defense Ministry indicated in a statement.

This statement is disseminated after the Kremlin warned this Friday that the increase in Ukrainian attacks compromises any "prospect of peace," in a context where negotiations remain stalled while the United States, acting as a mediator, tries to resolve its own war in the Middle East.
