The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB, for its Russian acronym) has communicated this Thursday that the country's security forces have managed to neutralize an alleged plan by Ukrainian intelligence services to carry out a terrorist attack against a Russian military officer.
"Terrorist attack planned by Ukrainian special services against a serviceman of one of the units of the Russian Ministry of Defense thwarted," the FSB indicated in a statement.
According to the note, Russian agents arrested a supposed hitman who would have been recruited by Ukraine and who would have been tasked with shooting the aforementioned military officer. The detainee is a man of foreign origin born in the 90s.
"During the interrogation, the detainee confessed that he was recruited by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU, for its Ukrainian acronym) in the territory of a member state of the European Union, to which he had fled due to criminal proceedings opened in his country of origin," the document states.
According to the FSB, the Ukrainian services would have offered him, once the operation was carried out, support to obtain refugee status and be able to remain legally in the territory of the European bloc.
